Kurt Stumpf

Kurt Stumpf, a Pierz area native, has been named the new superintendent of Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton (JWP) Schools. Before coming to Janesville, Stumpf was a teacher in Pierz, a dean of students in Little Falls, and the middle school principal in Sartell. JWP will be his first superintendent position.

Stumpf credits growing up in the Pierz area as being the foundation for his career.

“The opportunities that Pierz Healy High School had for me as a student were instrumental in creating a well-rounded foundation. I believe school systems should help students learn and grow to ensure endless possibilities after graduation, and the Pierz School system absolutely did that,” said Stumpf. “I was extremely fortunate to have outstanding teachers to challenge and support me throughout my school career in Pierz.”

He was also “extremely fortunate to have outstanding mentors” as he started down the administrative route.

“George Weber (current superintendent) and Karrie Boser (current high school principal) from Pierz not only helped me to purse an administrative degree, but have remained mentors ever since,” Stumpf said.

While working at Little Falls Community Middle School, Stumpf said he learned a lot from Nathan Swenson, past principal at LFCMS.

“He was simply an outstanding principal,” Stumpf said.

Swenson moved on to Eden Prairie Middle School and Stumpf moved on to Sartell Middle School. Stumpf said they stay in contact and still run ideas past each other.

Stumpf sees the Janesville area as a community he can enjoy and be part of.

“The part that drew me to apply for the superintendent position at JWP was the community support, as in Pierz and Little Falls,” he said.

Outside of work, Stumpf coaches AAU basketball with the Minnesota Comets out of St. Cloud.

“I credit my high school coaches (Rey Zimney, Karla Jensen, Dean Dahmen and Craig Johnshoy) for instilling the passion for working out, which I still do,” he said.

Stumpf is the son of Joe and Gloria Stumpf of Lastrup. He has relocated to Mankato, which is close to Janesville.
