Myles McGrath, 64, Pierz, was killed in an accident on Highway 25 near 273rd Street.
McGrath was traveling on his motorcycle behind a truck hauling hay bales, when three bales fell off, the Minnesota State Patrol said.
McGrath struck one of the bales and went off the road into a median ditch.
He was taken to North Memorial Hospital in the Twin Cities, but did not survive the accident.
A memorial service for McGrath will be held Thursday at 4 p.m. in Le Center, where McGrath served as city administrator for many years, his obituary said.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Carol, their sons, Patrick and Ben, grandchildren Ian and Ella, his long-term partner, Linda Rahn, and her family, and many other family members.
