The Monticello Polecats went head to head against the Cold Spring Rockies on Saturday, Aug. 3 to kick off the Region 11C Tournament in Sartell, but fell short of victory.
The Rockies defeated number one seed, Monticello 7-0. The Polecats’ loss on Saturday placed them in the losers bracket for the remainder of the tournament.
Ryan Hennen pitched nine straight innings for Cold Spring, striking out 15 batters. Austin Dufner hit a 3-run homerun against Polecat starter, Michael Revenig.
On Sunday Aug. 4, Monticello took on the Saint Augusta Gussies with Wyatt Morrell on the mound. The Polecats came out with hot bats, scoring in the first inning. Morrell threw a four-hit shut-out, making it a battle of the pitchers, but the Gussies couldn’t answer back. The Polecats took home the win 1-0.
Sunday’s win kept the 16-10 Polecats alive in Region 11C tournament play heading into next weekend.
The updated bracket on the Region Tournament website puts Monticello in the 2:30 p.m. game on Aug. 10 against the Watkins Clippers at Sartell.
