Her memorial service will be 11 am, Saturday, August 24, 2019, at Resurrection Lutheran Church in Monticello with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Family burial will be in Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis. Cremation services were with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar. Martha Ann (Westin) Burke was born May 5, 1933, in Twin Valley, MN, to John and Alice (Saker) Westin. On May 20th, she was baptized into faith. In 1951 she graduated from Grand Forks High School, and went on to earn her degree in Radiology Technology. In 1967 “Martie” met her future husband John “Jack” Burke. The two welcomed their only child, a son, Kevin in 1968. Jack and Martie were married on July 4, 1969. They called St. Louis Park their home for many years. In 1992, they purchased a lot on Lake Beauty in Long Prairie. There, they developed many wonderful memories and treasured friendships. This “happy place” continues to bring lifelong memories to a new generation of family and friends. Martie retired from Park Nicolet Hospital in 1994, after 30 years of service. In 1998 they built a home in Monticello. Martie remained in that home after Jack’s death in 2009. They had been together 40 years. Eventually she came to New London to live with her son. The last few years of her life were spent in the memory care unit at Copperleaf in Willmar. Martie was a free spirited, fun loving soul. She was dedicated to her family, husband, son, and friends. Most importantly she was dedicated to her “friend,” Jesus. She loved music, singing and dancing. She enjoyed her cappuccino with whipped cream, ice cream, and sweet and sour chicken. Andy Griffith and Solitaire were also her favorites. Martie held tight to her memories and favorite things as long as she was able. On August 4th, Martie went home to her friend Jesus, her son by her side. She is survived by her son, Kevin (and Lisa) of New London; brother, John of Dallas, TX; nephews: Greg, Michael, David, Jeff and Jason; nieces: Stacy, Karla, Cathy, Sandy, Jennifer and sister-in-law, Gwynn. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings: Margaret, Jean, George, and Donna. She is loved and missed by all who knew her.
