Monti Tennis battles Delano

Monticello started their tennis match around 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 28.

The team warmed up on a windy Wednesday, making up for their canceled match on Tuesday due to rain.

The No. 1 singles match up was Maria Molitor for Delano who took on Monti’s Hannah Mayer, 6-0, 6-0, respectively.

For a closer match up in the No. 2 singles play, Monti’s Alayna Jones was defeated by Delano’s Olivia Bekkala 6-1, 6-3. Next up was senior Maddie Bjellos for the No. 3 singles match, who couldn’t score against Delano’s Bella Molitor. The match concluded 6-0, 6-0.

Finally, No. 4 singles player for Monticello, Kallie Christianson couldn’t keep up with Delano’s Aubrey Stauton and scored a single point with a final result of 6-1, 6-0.

Onto doubles for the day, there were some higher scoring matches for the Magic’s tennis team.

Monti’s Rebecca Rousslang and Samantha Pullen were out matched by Delano’s Meghan Stauton and Emma Condon No. 1 doubles team 6-0, 6-0.

No. 2 doubles were a bit more competitive. Jewel Zimmerman-Gilman and Tessa Turner played hard against Katherine Degn and Kendall Dreger resulting in a score of 6-3, 7-5.

Rounding out the day the no. 3 doubles team for Monticello, Emma Cordell and Bailey Hoffman took on Delano’s Elise Larson and Addie Persian, 6-4, 6-3.
