This is my last chance to ask you to come to the senior center fundraiser coming up this Sunday, September 29.  The senior center is sponsoring a Dad’s Belgian Waffles fundraiser that day from 8 a.m. to noon and it will be held in the community center gym.  The breakfast includes waffles, a variety of toppings including strawberries and blueberries, sausage, milk, juice, and coffee.  The cost is $7 for people ages 13+ in advance ($8 at the door), $4 for kids ages 6-12, and kids age 5 and under eat free.  Stop on over on the 29th to enjoy a delicious breakfast!

Stop over at the senior center on Friday, October 4 to get your flu shot.  They will be administered from 9:30-11 a.m.  Be sure to bring your Medicare or other health insurance card with you so proper billing can be done.  The high dose for people age 65+ will be available, as will the quadrivalent for younger people.  The flu shots will be administered on a walk-in basis, so you don’t have to call to make an appointment.

Please give us a call if you plan to come to photographer and storyteller Doug Ohman’s next presentation at our center.  Journey throughout the state of Minnesota with Doug as he explores towns and villages.  This program focuses on the history of the location with fun stories relating to the town names.  This session will be offered free of charge on Monday, September 30 at 10:30 a.m. and we hope you join us.

Join us at the community center for Hoppy Hour!  Wondering what Hoppy Hour is?  The Minnesota Companion Rabbit Society will bring their furry friends to us for you to pet and visit with.  If you have always wanted to pet or hold a rabbit this is your opportunity!  This fun event will take place on Friday, October 11, at 10 a.m.  There is a limit of 25 people, so sign up early to reserve your space and you can call us at 763-295-2000 to do so.  This activity is open to people age 55+.

You can also give us a call to sign up to ride the coach bus to the St. Croix Casino on Monday, October 7.  The bus will depart the center at 8:30 a.m. and return at about 5:15 p.m.  The bus ride is free, and you are asked to record your casino card number when signing up for this trip.

Volunteers are needed to help pick up litter on the senior center’s adopted stretch of road.  Meet at the senior center at 9 a.m. on Thursday, October 10 if you can help.  You will walk approximately one mile and will be provided with a safety vest, gloves, and garbage bags.  Please call us at 763-295-2000 if you can help.

We can provide help for people who have Parkinson’s Disease.  The Parkinson’s Support Group will meet on Tuesday, October 1 from 1:30-3 p.m.  Our volunteer facilitator, Heidi Ewing, does a fantastic job and is very knowledgeable about this disease.

Bill Lansing was the winner of last week’s cribbage tournament, with Pete Christianson coming in second place and Loren Heckmann third.  We held a 500 card tournament last week and Deanna Cahill was the winner.  Dale Chamberlin came in second place and Milt Grambart third.  The last euchre tournament winner was Sandy Schleif, with Gladys Bitzer coming in second place and Ed Lewis third.

See you at the senior center breakfast fundraiser!
