Here is your chance to show off those adorable grandchildren and great grandchildren! Grandparents are invited to participate in the senior center Grandchild Photo Contest. Bring in a picture of your grandchild or great grandchild by September 19. The pictures will be displayed September 23-26 and the winners announced during dinner on the 26. Categories include, “Say Cheese,” “Beautiful Eyes,” and “Adorable.” Only one photo per grandparent is eligible for the photo contest.
If you are eligible, please remember to come and vote in the Monticello Senior Center Board of Directors election that will take place on Friday, September 6 from noon to 1 p.m. Anyone age 55+ who has participated in senior center activities a minimum of 12 times over the past year is eligible to vote. There are five nominees running for three spots on the board. Those nominees are Janet Bromberg, Ketzel Domke, Paul Klein, and Roger Pribyl.
The Monticello Senior Center Annual Meeting will be held on Friday, September 6 at 1 p.m. after the election. Activity and financial reports will be given, and election results will be announced. Important issues will be discussed, so please attend.
If you are at all interested in finding out more about membership and exercise classes held at the Monticello Community Center, be sure to attend the SilverSneakers Open House on September 23 at 12:30 p.m. in the Bridge Room. SilverSneakers is a program that includes exercise classes, Community Center membership, and social events geared to people 65 and older. See if you qualify for this free program and take a tour of the community center with Donna Finnell, SilverSneakers Specialist. Sign up in the senior center or call 763-295-2000.
The next senior center potluck will take place on Wednesday, September 18 and will be held in the community center Mississippi Room. September birthdays and anniversaries will be celebrated with a potluck dinner at noon on the 18th. Everyone is invited and are asked to bring a dish of food to share. Accordion player George Jundt will provide the entertainment.
You are invited to journey throughout the state of Minnesota with photographer and storyteller, Doug Ohman as he explores towns and villages. This program focuses on the history of the location with fun stories relating to the town names. This session will be offered free of charge on Monday, September 30 at 10:30 a.m. Please sign up if you plan to attend.
You can also call me if you want additional information about the support groups that meet at our center. The Caregiver Support Group will meet on Wednesday, September 14 from 1-2:30 p.m. and anyone providing care for another person is welcome to attend. The group is professionally facilitated and offers both support and education. There is no charge to attend.
There is a $2 charge for people to play in the senior center card tournaments. All tournaments are open to people age 55+ and you must sign up to play in each at least one business day in advance. Cash prizes are awarded to the winners and you can call the center at 763-295-2000 to sign up. Mike Havlik was the winner of the bridge tournament held last week and Judy Stukey came in second place. Ruth Morgan won all her cribbage games during the tournament last week and was the winner. Mary Kuechle came in second place, and Pete Christianson third. The last euchre tournament winner was
The next Team Pool Tournament will be held at the Elk River Activity Center on Monday, September 9. The games begin at 9:30 a.m. and the winning team earns the right to hang the traveling plaque in their center for the next month. Good luck to our team, the Cue Masters!
Four August Trivia Contest sheets turned in had all the answers correct and they were from Krisie Garvin, Karen Hanson, Paul & Dianne Klein, and Pete Stupar. Krisie’s name was randomly drawn as the winner.
