Do you need help with housekeeping?  The Wright County HOME Program offers those services in Monticello and Buffalo.  Fees are competitive, and discounted service rates can be offered to those that qualify.  If you are over age 60 and live in Monticello or Buffalo, I invite you to contact our HOME Program Coordinator at 763-416-7969 for more details on housekeeping and other available services.

Please invite your family, friends, and neighbors and come to senior center on Wednesday, August 21 for the annual Pie & Ice Cream Social.  This fundraiser will be held in the community center Mississippi Room from 2-6 p.m.  The cost is just $3 for a slice of pie topped with ice cream and served with coffee and lemonade.  As always, volunteers are needed to help make this event successful.  We still need help during the 2-4 p.m. shift.  Please give us a call at 763-295-2000 if you can help.

The County Line Square Dancers will again perform during the Pie & Ice Cream Social from 2:30-4 p.m.  Stop on over during that time on the 21st for some delicious pie and to watch some fun square dancing.  This group of dancers is very energetic and love to have people join in.

You can participate in the first ever senior center Pie Eating Contest.  This fun event will take place at 5 p.m. during the Pie & Ice Cream Social on August 21.  There are two categories:  people ages 55+ and people under age 55.  Prizes will be awarded to the winners.  A maximum of 10 people for each category can register.  Sound interesting?  Please call me to get more details about this tasty event.

The monthly senior center potlucks sure are tasty.  Bring a dish of food to share and come to the potluck dinner on Wednesday, August 14 at noon.  This is the day that August birthdays and anniversaries will be celebrated, and everyone is invited whether it is your special day or not.  People will have the opportunity to play bingo after dinner.

People age 55+ have the opportunity to play bingo and win prizes during the monthly Bingo Bash event on Thursday, August 15.  The games begin at 11 a.m. and the prizes are provided by CentraCare St. Benedict’s Senior Community.  If you plan to come and play bingo on the 15th, why not plan to stay for the turkey dinner that day?  Just call us at 763-295-2000 to sign up for dinner.

You can also call the center to sign up to play in the card tournaments.  Each has a $2 entry fee and prizes are given to the winners.  People age 55+ are eligible to play and do have to sign up at least one day in advance.  Last week’s cribbage tournament winner was Chris Maas, with Jim Weisner coming in second place and Dick Ende third.  Gladys Bitzer and Tom Wright tied as the winners of the last euchre tournament and Glen Schleif had the next highest score.

Adults of all ages are welcome to attend the Caregiver Support Group.  This group is professionally facilitated and meets on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month from 1-2:30 p.m.  There is no charge to attend and the next meeting will take place on August 14.

The next Book Club meeting will be on Saturday, August 10.  They will discuss the book they read and pick up the new one.  New members are welcome, so if you like to read, check out our Book Club.

If you have gardening questions, check out our next Q & A with Master Gardeners meeting.  This gathering will take place on Friday, August 16 at 12:30 p.m. and there is no charge to attend.  Please sign up in advance if you plan to come.

Come and cheer our Cue Masters billiards team on as they take on the Silver Snookers from Elk River during the Team Pool Tournament on Monday, August 12.  The tournament will be held at our center starting at 9:30 a.m.  The winning team earns the right to hang the traveling plaque in their center for the next month.  Good luck, Cue Masters!

Only three July Trivia Contest sheets were turned in and they all had the correct answers.  They were submitted by Karen Hanson, Paul & Dianne Klein, and Pete Stupar.  Karen’s name was drawn as the winner of the Dinner Program meal ticket.  Stop by the center to pick up an August Trivia Contest sheet and give yourself a bit of a challenge.
