On Thursday, Oct. 24 the boys and girls cross country teams competed at the Section 8AA Tournament for one last run.
The boys came in eighth place over all out of 16 teams.
Their competitors were Willmar, Bemidji, Alexandria, Saint Cloud Apollo, Moorhead, Sartell-Saint Stephen, Brainerd, Detroit Lakes, Rocori, Becker, Saint Cloud Tech, Little Falls, Foley, Sauk Rapids-Rice, and Fergus Falls.
The competition was stiff, but the Magic runners stayed composed and competed as usual.
Noah Mahoney was the first runner from Monticello cross the finish line with a time of 17:28.80.
Next was Matt Pentilla with a time of 17:38.40, Sawyer McCalla with a time of 17:54.50, and Cade Hansen with a time of 18:00.70.
Jacob Biard and Riley Derby were just .40 seconds apart with times of 18:07.20 and 18:07.60.
And finally for the Magic, Jackson May ran for a time of 18:29.50.
The girls team came in seventh place over all competing against 15 teams.
They had the same competitors as the boys minus Sauk Rapids-Rice High School.
There was a lot of talented teams, but the Magic shined through.
Coming in first for Monticello and 16th over all was Gabby Witschen with a time of 19:32.50, which qualified her for state.
Up next for Monti was Grace Smith with a time of 20:00.40, Halle Dahlheimer with a time of 20:39.80, senior Elise Yeager with a time of 20:57.40, and Kaelin Mcdermott with a time of 21:32.70.
The final two runners for Monticello were talented eighth graders, Josey Nygaard and Hope Guertin with times of 22:01.80 and 22:15.50.
Gabby will compete at state this weekend on Saturday, Nov. 2 at St. Olaf College.
