Carson out at home Magic baseball

Carson Sawatzke is thrown out at home in the state semi-finals against Benilde-St. Margaret on Friday, June 14 at Siebert Field on the University of Minnesota Campus. Monticello lost to the Red Knights 2-1. Had the run scored, it would have tied the game.

Benilde-St. Margaret's will play for the Class AAA championship on Thursday, June 20 at Target Field.

The Red Knights capitalized on an unearned run in the 5th to edge Monticello, 2-1 at Siebert Field.

Jonny Woodford led off and singled through the right side, he advanced to second on a throwing error by the Magic right fielder, Isaac Frandsen. He was sacrificed to third and then scored what proved to be the winning run on a wild pitch by Thomas Van Culin.

Monticello had taken an early 1-0 lead on an unearned run that also scored on a wild pitch. Dylan Drees, went the distance for the Red Knights yielding just four hits, and one walk.

The winners got just four hits off Van Culin, who struck out seven in six innings of work.

All nine hits in the game were singles, and the teams committed a combined five errors.
