Dave Hutchinson is running for Hennepin County Sheriff against current sheriff of 11 years, Richard Stanek. Stanek has served three terms as sheriff and was first elected Jan. 1, 2007. Hutchinson says he decided to run because, “I just really think this really think this organization is an organization that needs to be whole thing is to put the public safety before politics. And I think the current sheriff is all about the politics and not about the people.”

Hutchinson has been an officer for the last 15 years, and a sergeant for the last five. He is a member of the Black Police Officer Association, the Asian Police Association, the Somali-American Police Association, and the Latino Police Association, and the LGBTQ community Police Association. He adds that he feels the system needs to be re-evaluated. “We need to balance public safety with being humane to human beings. Being kind of a more compassionate, but common sense organization.”

He concludes that, “It wont be an easy win, but we are confident we will win and make change.”
