Due to the snow storms and slippery roads, officers responded to 10 calls of vehicles in the ditch. 1 fatality, 1 personal Injury, 1 DWI, and 7 no injuries or property damage.
Friday, March 1
Complaint of the stoplight at Baker Park Road and Highway 12, Maple Plain is not functioning. Officer response found the signal was in working order; snowfall made it difficult to see where traffic sensors and lanes were for the light, but the light was functioning properly
2900 Lindgren Lane, Independence. Officers responded to a female who was unconscious and was transported to the hospital by ambulance.
City of Independence Public Works reported they were unable to remove snow due to vehicles parked on two streets. Homeowners were contacted and the vehicles were moved.
Saturday, March 2
Highway 12/Lake Haughey Road, Independence. Officer responded to a vehicle and semi-truck crash. Arrival at the scene found a crash involving a passenger vehicle and a semi-truck. The driver of the vehicle, 18-year-old female from Delano, had died at the scene as a result of the crash. WHPS was assisted at the scene by four police departments, Maple Plain and Delano Fire Dept. and MNDOT. Traffic was diverted for several hours.
5:00 p.m. Officer observed a female walking on the road, County Road 90/Highway 12, Independence. 15-year-old juvenile said she needed some air. Officer gave her a ride home and dropped her off with her parents.
Sunset Lane/Townline Road, Independence. Officer dispatched for a vehicle in the ditch. Contact with the driver, an odor of alcohol was coming from the vehicle. Driver, 17-year-old female and 15-year-old female, both from Mound, were found to have been drinking. 17-year-old submitted a breath test which resulted in .13 breath alcohol concentration and was arrested for 4th Degree DWI. The passenger was given a preliminary breath test which resulted in .106 breath alcohol concentration and she was arrested for Underage Consumption. Both were released to their father.
Sunday, March 3
5300 Clayton Drive, Maple Plain. Resident wanted help with an eviction notice for a male to vacate the property. The resident would need to go through Hennepin County Courts for the eviction notice.
6000 County Road 11, Independence. Motorist had her vehicle flashers on, the vehicle went into a ‘limp mode’ and she was unable to go any faster and she was looking for a place to pull over and turn around. Officer had her turn the truck off, then back on which seemed to solve the issue and she was able to continue on her route at the posted speed.
Monday, March 4
Highway 12/County Line Road, Independence. 33-year-old female from Cokato mistakenly pushed the accelerator instead of the brake when approaching a stopped tractor/trailer, and rear-ended it. Her SUV had severe disabling damage and was towed from the scene. Female was cited for Failure to Drive with Due Care. No injuries.
33 contacts of citations, verbal and written warnings were issued for traffic and equipment violations.
