The Orono School Board, honoring district values of excellence and inclusion, is seeking residents to serve on two groups that will inform its decisions on child nutrition and curriculum and accountability.

The Child Nutrition for the Future Work Group is a new group being formed this fall. The committee will review and evaluate school nutrition parameters and options while identifying key challenges that impact the district’s child nutrition program. The committee will provide recommendations to the administration and School Board, considering financial impact, feasibility and implementation process.

With the guidance of an outside facilitator, the group will begin meeting in October and is anticipated to complete its work in January. Five to eight community representatives will be selected via an application process. Once formed, the group will determine the frequency and dates of its meetings.

The Curriculum and Accountability Council (CAC) is an ongoing advisory committee focused on the areas of curriculum, instruction and assessment. Members provide input regarding the district’s curriculum review process, instructional practices, and outcomes. The CAC meets during the school year, one evening per month. Two to three new members are needed.

Members for both committees must live in the district, but are not required to currently have children enrolled. In fact, a variety of community and parent perspectives are critical to improving services and programs for students. Selection will be based upon a combination of perspective, experience, knowledge and representation within the community.

Members of the Child Nutrition for the Future Work Group will be selected by the Facilities and Finance Committee, which is a three-member subcommittee of the full School Board. Selection of CAC members will be led by Dr. Aaron Ruhland, director of learning and accountability.

Applications are due by 4 p.m. Friday, September 20. To apply online, please visit Applications are also available in the District Office or any school office.
