The Orono Middle School Destination Imagination team “Clogged Cogs” earned third place at the Global Finals held in Kansas City, Mo., from May 20-24.
The team of five Orono students competed in the Fine Arts division known as “Tricky Tales” in which the team must present a solution to specific requirements set out by the Destination Imagination organization. Teams are not allowed to use any assistance from adults or others not involved in their team. All script writing, creation, props, and solutions may only be attended to by the team members while staying under the $150 budget limit.
There was a seven-month process of creating, innovating, competing and striving for a bid at Global Finals, which brought in over 400 teams from around the world. Teams who do well in the state competitions proceed to the Global Stage. Additionally, teams must complete in a “speed round” referred to as the Instant Challenge in which appraisers score teams based on teamwork, communication, problem solving, innovation, creativity and execution of a task under time constraints.
This team has competed for four years together but this is the first time they have taken home a medal from the Global Stage.
