Contests open for 7-12th graders
The national VFW has opened its annual audio essay contests for students in seventh through 12th grades. The Voice of Democracy audio essay scholarship contest is open to eighth through 12th grade students. Students must write and record a three to five-minute audio essay on the theme of “What Makes America Great.” The winner of the top prize will receive a $30,000 scholarship, and first-place winners at the state level will receive a trip to Washington, D.C. The Patriot’s Pen essay contest is open to seventh and eighth graders. Students must write a 300 to 400-word essay on the theme “What Makes America Great.” The winner of the contest will win $5,000.
