Art In Action offers multi-arts morning camp for youth ages 7-13.
Festival Theatre will host Art In Action, a morning multi-arts camp, this summer. The camp will take place Aug 12-16 from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the Scandia Community Center, with a fee of $60 per child. The camp features curriculum guided by Festival Theatre’s mission of empowerment through the arts.
“Art In Action is committed to meaningful engagement with the arts through process-based learning,” said Arts Education Director Brooke Smith in a press release. “We chose the name Art In Action because we want our campers to think of art as a verb. It’s something you do, not something you make. Art is a process, not a product. When you focus on art as an action, then mistakes are less scary. And it’s only through making mistakes that we really can learn anything. We believe that practicing this mindset makes us better creative thinkers and better people.”
Smith joined the Festival Theatre staff in September of last year. She is a graduate of the University of South Carolina, where she earned a BA in theatre and political science.
