The Forest Lake Brewers amateur baseball team came off its holiday week break to claim a 3-1 home victory over the St. Anthony Hogs July 7.
The Hogs came into the game ranked No. 4 in Class A. The Brewers entered as the No. 7 team in Class B.
Noah Brown and Drew Cremisino each notched an RBI and the Brewers added an unearned run in a three-run seventh inning to beat the Hogs, who had scored their run an inning earlier.
On the mound, lefty Bub Lovas got the start and went six innings; Jake Kari earned the win with a three-batter seventh, then Jeff Brooks and Brown also faced the minimum in the eighth and ninth, respectively. Brown was credited with a save.
The victory snapped a three-game losing streak and moved the Brew Crew to 14-10 on the season. The nonleague game did not alter the Brewers’ 6-2 (second place) Metro Minny mark; the Brewers were set to face the Centennial Cougars and their first post-break league game at home Tuesday after press time. The Brewers will also play at home Friday at 7:30 p.m. against the Champlin Logators and Saturday at 2 p.m. against the Anoka Bucs.
The Brewers will then head to CHS Field, home of the St. Paul Saints, for another game against Centennial Wednesday, July 17, at 7 p.m.
