In 2001, cop Brian  O’Conner (Paul Walker) and street racer Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) became an unlikely street car racing duo, and the Fast and the Furious franchise exploded into a decades-long affair, causing lots of imaginary damage to the world but delighting fans with renegade heroes in sweet rides going fast.

In “Fast X,” the question “How did we let this go on so long?” is asked by Aimes (Alan Ritchson), a figurehead for the shadowy government entity named The Agency. (The answer is, of course, that the Fast franchise became a cash cow for Universal, driving action fans in droves to the box office in the past two decades.) And the Fast and the Furious movies, which have progressively gotten bigger and crazier, will likely bring some good dough with the first installment of its finale series. (Rumors are swirling about a three-movie ending to the franchise, though 2025’s second installment is the only one that has been confirmed.)
