Chad Brune, regional manager of American Portfolio Mortgage’s Forest Lake location, grew up in Forest Lake and graduated from Forest Lake Area High School. He and his family moved back to the area in 2000. His biography in the home mortgage field is extensive.

“I have enjoyed helping clients and agents with their mortgage needs since 2003,” he explained. “I also was a licensed real estate agent for five years from 2003 to 2008 with Remax out of White Bear Lake. I opened, owned and operated Heartland Home Loans in Hugo, a successful mortgage company (broker) from 2004-2016.”

Brune is proud of the work Heartland did in its original incarnation.

“Heartland had as many as 48 employees and we had an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau, and we helped over 4,000 individuals and families,” he said.

Brune is grateful for the time already spent in the industry, as it’s allowed him to gain proficiency in a variety of skills.

“I have extensive education and continuing education relevant to mortgages underwriting,” he said, adding that his areas of home loan and mortgage knowledge include the Federal Housing Authority, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and the Department of Agriculture.

“[I can do] conventional [and] construction loans, including purchase loans, refinance loans, ... rehab loans, HELOCs, and investment financing,” he said.

In 2018, Brune moved his office (and much of his previous mortgage team) to Forest Lake and began working under the American Portfolio Mortgage banner.

“This is where I have been and grew up for 40-plus years. ... I grew up here, live here, and I am very familiar with this area,” he said, adding that American Portfolio Mortgage Company was a great alignment with his vision for the industry.

“When I was deciding on closing Heartland, I spent about 1 1/2 years looking for a like-minded company – one that had same or similar core values and truly understood the business, the importance of people, process, products and pricing, and [putting] their clients first,” he said. “I talked with over 20 companies, and APMC was the absolute best fit.”

In addition to living and working in the area, Brune supports and is involved with the local community, attending Willowbrook Community Church and supporting local high school sports (he also coached youth sports for 16 years).

“My company in Hugo was involved with the local food shelf, we supported Special Olympics, Children’s Hospital, Operation Smile, Feed My Starving Children,” he said. “We were able to fund the drilling and establishment of two fresh water wells in India, and we have supported many other local and global charities.”

Brune also enjoys fishing, hunting, golfing and spending time with his family. He is excited about what 2019 holds for his business.

“The year is young, but one thing that has been a highlight or exciting to me is I’ve had an excellent track record of helping my borrowers get their [home] offer selected in multiple offer situations,” he said. “I’m also celebrating 16-plus years in the mortgage business, but more importantly, 13 years with my team. ... I truly care about people and love what I do, and so does my entire team.”
