Columbus Elementary School students celebrated Read Across America Week Feb. 25 through March 1 by participating in the school’s third annual Battle of the Books competition, a quizzing event on books that were purchased through a TEFLA grant. During the competition, teams answer quiz style questions about six books of varying genres that students read for eight weeks. Team members were required to read at least two of the books, and there were several students who read all the books for their competition. The winning teams received prizes of Scholastic Book Bucks were donated by Columbus PTO. Winner of the fifth and sixth grade competition was the team The Mighty Jungle Team (top left), comprised of sixth-grade students Kaden Hine, Lucas McKenzie , Dylan Beckjordan, Emily Warren-Pratt, and Ardara Crites-Cline. Winner of the third and fourth grade competition was the team Sport Boyz (middle right), comprised of fourth-graders Jack Pavlas, Sawyer Bennett, Brody Radke, Brooks Rohne, and Jarrett Cooper.
