Robbinsdale Armstrong sets its sights for the 5AAA individual wrestling section tournament next.
The top two finishers in each weight class will advance to state on Saturday, Feb. 23, at St. Michael Albertville.
Senior Logan Ehlenz is 28-7 at 170 pounds, but that is one of the toughest brackets. According to rankings on TheGuillotine.com, top-ranked Buffalo senior Riley Habisch, second-ranked STMA junior Carl Leuer and ninth-ranked Osseo freshman Jacob Meissner are the top wrestlers at 170.
Senior Ben Mennenga is 30-8 at 160 pounds. The top wrestler in that bracket is third-ranked STMA junior Wyatt Lidberg.
Mennenga and Ehlenz both finished fifth in the section last season.
Freshman Amauri Easley (24-13, 145), freshman Aceyn Meyer (16-11, 106), senior Jaylan Young (18-13, 138), juniors Caleb Ley (21-17, 195) and James Ohm (17-16, 220) and eighth-grader Diego Terriquez (12-11, 113/120) are other Falcons with winning records with over 20 matches.
Fifth-ranked STMA eighth-grader Travis Smith and eighth-ranked Wayzata eighth-grader Cal Lonnquist are the favorites at 106. 113 pounds will be a tough bracket with STMA senior Brandon Psyk and sixth-ranked Wayzata eighth-grader Adame Cherne.
At 120, fourth-ranked Wayzata sophomore Cael Swensen and ninth-ranked STMA freshman Kaden Amundson are the favorites.
Seventh-ranked Maple Grove junior Gavin Peterson and eighth-ranked Rogers sophomore Wil Yasseri are the favorites at 138. Fifth-ranked Maple Grove senior Evan Hull is the favorite at 195, and ninth-ranked Osseo sophomore Jagger Schack is the favorite at 220.
There are no ranked wrestlers at 145.
