Elk River Police and Fire were dispatched at 11:10 a.m. to a report of a sign fire at Auto Zone in the 18000 block of Zane Street late this morning.
They quickly learned from dispatch the sign was on the front of the building, and it was starting the structure on fire.
Crews arrived to find the sign fully engulfed, according to traffic on the scanner. Members of the Elk River Fire Department extinguished the blaze as thick smoke emanated from the building. Crews continued to dig into the building to ensure the fire was completely out.
Traffic on Main Street and Highway 169 began to back up, and the Elk River Fire Department posted on their Facebook page to expect delays while they were out there at the scene of the commercial structure fire.
“This is currently an active fire scene, expect traffic delays in the area and/or use alternative routes until crews clear. Big Lake Fire and Elk River Ambulance are on scene assisting. Elk River sent in a ladder truck immediately and Big Lake’s ladder truck was also summoned and arrived about 11:35 a.m.
