The Elk River Fire Department was called out to check on a house after a sky lantern lit by a small flame landed on the roof.
A woman had called police at 9:16 p.m. Sept. 14 after a person came to her door and told her the lantern had landed on her roof. The lantern had been lit after a funeral. When a gust of wind caught it and it floated away, the people who lit it followed the lantern and saw it land on the roof of the home in the 13000 block of 186th Lane in Elk River.
The fire department responded, retrieved the lantern and verified that the roof was not on fire.
