A thief or thieves took approximately 160 gallons of diesel fuel from the fuel tank of a piece of heavy construction equipment (excavator)while it was parked in a church lot in the 12000 block of 193rd Avenue. The fuel was worth $400 to $500.

The theft was reported Aug. 29.

Suspect runs from scene of theft

A suspect took off running after a man found him going through his unlocked vehicle as it was parked in a driveway in the 700 block of Irving Avenue in Elk River at 1:40 a.m. Sept. 2.

The suspect was described as a white male, 16 to 18 years old, 5 foot 9 inches to 5 foot 10 inches tall, wearing a red or green neon hat and a black long-sleeved shirt.

Taken from the vehicle were a black leather bifold wallet, debit and credit cards, and cash.

Van overturns after driver falls asleep

A Brooklyn Park man, 36, escaped injury after falling asleep at the wheel and crashing. His van overturned at the intersection of Highway 169 and Jackson Street in Elk River at 6:02 p.m. Aug. 30. When police arrived, he was out of the van said he was OK.

Satchel stolen from vehicle at park

A satchel containing personal items was reported stolen from a vehicle while it was parked at Woodland Trails Regional Park, 20135 Elk Lake Road, Elk River.

The theft was reported at 4:46 p.m. Aug. 29.

Weed whip, gas can stolen from shed

A weed whip and gas can were reported stolen from a garden shed located at a business in the 17000 block of Tyler Street in Elk River.

The burglary was reported at 4:13 p.m. Aug. 29.

Woman found on floor of parked car

An Elk River woman, 18, was arrested for DWI after police investigated a suspicious vehicle parked in the lot of a church at 1103 School St. in Elk River at 4:42 a.m. Sept. 1.

Inside the vehicle was the woman, who was lying on the floor between the front and back seat and showed signs of impairment.
