Monica Renee (Fiala) Mize

Monica Renee (Fiala) Mize, age 44 of Otsego, passed away surrounded by her family on August 8, 2019. She was born on May 14, 1975 in St. Paul, MN to Dennis and Margaret (Lanari) Fiala. Monica grew up in Morgan Hill, CA and graduated from Live Oak High School in 1993. Following high school, she attended Sacramento State University to further her education. She received a Bachelor’s degree in Communications, and then went on to graduate school at St. Thomas in Minnesota. Monica was introduced to Stephen Mize through mutual friends, and the two were joined in marriage in 2001 at Living Word Christian Center in Brooklyn Park. Together they raised 8 children. She was so proud to be a wife and mother; her family was so important to her. Monica touched many lives and brought people together. She genuinely cared about people’s well-being and their souls. Her faith was unwavering and she was always trying to do the will of God. She had a sweet spirit and caring demeanor. She loved spending time in the outdoors and enjoying the sun, and took cake decorating classes as a hobby. She was very artistic and loved sharing her creativity with others. Monica is survived by her husband of 18 years, Steve; children, Ava, Isaac, Emily, Sam, Renee, TJ, Gemma, and Nico; parents, Dennis and Margaret Fiala; siblings, Michael (Kathryn), Kevin (Monica), David (Aimee), Jeremy (Nicole), and Nathan Fiala, Jaleesa Gonzales, and Ashley Garcia; parents-in-law, Steve and Stephanie Mize; sisters-in-law, Justine (Michael) Johnson and Alison (Jeremy) Cady; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. A visitation was held Monday, August 12, 2019 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the St. Michael Catholic Church in St. Michael, MN. Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, August 13, 2019 at 11:00 AM with visitation one hour prior to Mass at St. Michael Catholic Church in St. Michael, MN. Interment to follow at St. Michael Catholic Cemetery. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to The Peterson Chapel of St. Michael-Albertville.
