The Elk River Library’s children’s and young adult materials will no longer collect overdue fines.
The library is eliminating the fines because it benefits children and teens by keeping the library within their reach. The library seeks to have children become lifelong readers and library users.
With the change, overdue children’s and young adult materials (including books, DVDs, CDs and more) will no longer accrue daily late fees.
The library still wants patrons to bring items back, so overdue notices will still be sent after 10 days as a reminder. Items can be renewed twice as long as nobody else is waiting.
Permanently lost or damaged items will still be the financial responsibility of the patron; balances may be referred to collections if over $25.
The new no-fine policy will not erase previous balances, but Read Down Your Fines is available at the Elk River Library.
The Elk River Library is located at 13020 Orono Parkway.
