The city of Elk River is proposing restoration and enhancement to Lake Orono, which is a reservoir formed by the dam on Elk River. The goal of the Lake Orono restoration and enhancement project is to remove accumulated sediment from specified locations within the lake to restore the navigational depth, improve recreation opportunities and enhance wildlife habitat.
As part of the project preparation, the Minnesota Environmental Quality Board requires that an Environmental Assessment Worksheet is completed. This is available on the city’s website at ElkRiverMN.gov/LORE. Public comments can be submitted to Amanda Bednar, environmental coordinator, via email to abednar@ElkRiverMN.gov. Written comments can be mailed to City of Elk River, 13065 Orono Parkway, Elk River, MN, 55330. Public comments on the EAW will be accepted until 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 19.
