Operation Christmas Child shoebox distribution in Paraguay.

On Nov. 18, sites in the Elk River area will open to collect shoebox gifts filled with toys, school supplies and hygiene items for the Operation Christmas Child project.

Since 1993 Operation Christmas Child has collected and delivered more than 168 million shoeboxes to children in over 160 countries and territories. For many of these children, the gift-filled shoebox is the first gift they have ever received.

Operation Christmas Child’s 2019 goal is to reach 11 million children in need.

Here’s a list of local sites that will be collecting shoeboxes filled with gifts during national collection week, which is Nov. 18-25.

•River of Life Church, 21695 Elk Lake Road, Elk River.

•Nowthen Alliance Church, 19653 Nowthen Blvd., Nowthen.

•Mount Olive Lutheran Church, 700 Western St., Anoka.

•Electro Industries, 2150 W. River St., Monticello.

Operation Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan’s Purse, an international Christian relief and evangelism organization headed by Franklin Graham. The mission of Operation Christmas Child is to demonstrate God’s love in a tangible way to children in need around the world, and together with the local church worldwide, to share the good news of Jesus Christ, according to Operation Christmas Child.
