WILLS, TRUSTS, AND POWERS OF ATTORNEY- Tuesday, July 9, 10 a.m. Learn the basics of estate planning in this hour long presentation. The presenter, Jill Adkins has practiced law for over 30 years, with a focus on estate planning, guardianships, elder law, probates, and planning for incapacity.  Register in advance. Free for members,  $3 non members.

Q AND A WITH MASTER GARDENERS- Tuesday, July 9, 1 p.m. Master Gardeners Minnell and Jim Tralle will be at the Activity Center to answer your gardening questions and give you expert advice.  You may also bring in your plants for consultation.  Register by July 8.

CAPTEL PRESENTATION (CAPTIONED TELEPHONE)- Thursday, July 11, 10 a.m. Did you know that there is technology for people with hearing loss that is absolutely free? It’s called CapTel, which is federally funded technology available for no cost to any U.S. resident that has any degree of hearing loss. Those that would like a CapTel are able to request one at the time of the presentation. Alexandra Cooper is the speaker and is the National Outreach Lead for OEl supporting CapTel Captioned Telephones. Register in advance.

FABULOUS FRIDAY BINGO-  Friday, July 12, 1:30 p.m. Enjoy treats and great prizes. Each person may play up to two cards. This event is sponsored by Guardian Angels Senior Services and the Activity Center. Fee is $2 in advance or $3 at the door.

SIT AND KNIT-Monday, July 15, 1:30 p.m. Bring your knitting or other project to work on while visiting with others. Sit on our comfy chairs in the fireside lounge while you have fun sharing techniques, comparing patterns, and trading tips. Free. Register in advance if you plan to attend.

BOB ROSS PAINTING CLASS- Tuesday, July 16, 10 a.m. In this 4-hour class you will paint a picture using the Bob Ross Painting Method. All of the materials are included in the $55 fee and no experience is necessary. Register by July 12.

CARD BINGO AND STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE- Friday, July 19, 1:30 p.m. Instead of bingo cards, a deck of cards is used. Bingo is called when all 13 of the cards in your hand have been called and turned face down. You will win a great prize if you have bingo. Enjoy strawberry shortcake after playing. $3 members, $5 non members. Register by July 16.

FLINTSTONES AND JETSONS CAMP- Mondays, July 15, 22, 29 and Aug. 5 from 1-3 p.m. Flintstones and Jetsons is an intergenerational summer camp for grandparents and their 7-12 year old grandchildren.  The weekly cost is $20 per child, and each week will feature a fun, new theme for participants to enjoy.  Register for one or all four weeks of camp.  No fee for grandparents to attend, but you must register in advance.

PARKINSON’S SUPPORT GROUP- 4th Tuesday of the month, July 23, 12:30 p.m. This group is for people who have Parkinson’s as well as their spouse, care partners, siblings, children, and friends. Heidi Olson leads the group and provides resources, tips, and more for caregivers.

BEAN BAG TOURNAMENT WITH LUNCH- Friday, July 26, noon. Rain or shine. The tournament will take place outdoors, but will be moved inside in case of inclement weather. Participants will be divided into teams of two. Prizes will be awarded to the winning team.  Enjoy a hot dog, chips, potato salad, beverage, and a dessert before the tournament. Space is limited so register now, before July 23. Fee: $4 members, $6 non members.

ALZHEIMER’S/DEMENTIA CAREGIVER SUPPORT GROUP- Friday, July 26, 1:30 p.m. This informal support group is for caregivers faced with the challenge of caring for a friend or loved one with memory loss. Joy Dubois leads the group and provides resources, tips, and more for caregivers.

SPECIAL PRESENTATION: “WORKING DOGS IN VIETNAM”- Tuesday, July 30, 10:30 a.m. Vietnam Veteran and dog handler, Vince Smith, will talk about the two years he was in the Army during the Vietnam War training canines. Come find out the history of dogs working in the military units, what it took to train the dogs, the breeds that were used, and what types of duties they performed. Vince will also tell stories about being a Kennel Master and Conservation Officer at Fort Jackson, S.C.  Free for members, $3 non members. Register by July 26.

ART AND RELAXATION- Friday, August 2, 10 a.m. You will have the opportunity to practice Japanese relaxation techniques that will promote healthy mindfulness. Listen to relaxing, meditative music while you explore your creative side. You will learn how to compose a beautiful work of art that you will be proud to display. The instructor will nurture your artistic side and give you relaxation exercises to help with the daily challenges of life.  Fee: $20. Register by July 29.

MUSIC BY CODA! –Friday, August 16, 1:30 p.m. CODA is a saxophone/keyboard duo consisting of Scott Dorff on soprano, alto, and tenor saxophones, and Malcolm Anderson on piano and keyboard. CODA has released five recordings, and their music has touched the lives of thousands of people. They continue to compose and arrange music weekly, striving to make each individual performance both pleasurable and entertaining for their audiences. Pie will be served after the performance.  Space is limited. Fee: $3 members, $5 non members. Register by Aug. 13.

CARDS AND GAMES- A variety of card games are played throughout the week at the center.  Games include Smear, Bridge, 500, Scrabble, Boggle, and Hand & Foot.  Call 763.635.4500 for more information on days and times.

WOODCARVING- Every Wednesday at 9 a.m. at the Elk River Activity Center. All skill levels are welcome. Woodcarvers work on their own projects while sharing tips and ideas. Bring your own tools and projects.

FITNESS CLASSES- A variety of fitness classes are offered at the Elk River Activity Center including Fit and Friends, Yoga, and SilverSneakers Cardio. Call for more information.
