The Isanti Outlaws saw their season come to a close with a pair of 6-3 losses to the Minnesota Squatch in the Outlaws’ first-round U.S. Premier Hockey League playoff series.
Game 1 of the series on Friday, March 3, began with a wide-open first period in which both teams scored three goals. The Squatch scored twice in the game’s first minute before Tyler Schmitt found the back of the net at 1:54.
The Squatch added another goal before Dillon Meyer netted a power-play goal at 14:55 and Wyatt Nutt scored at the 17:59 mark.
But those were the only goals the Outlaws would score, while the Squatch scored the goal that gave them the lead for good in the second period, then added two more insurance goals midway through the final period.
Robert Bymers kept the Outlaws in the contest by making 46 saves, while Isanti managed just 19 shots against Squatch goaltender Nate Gulsvig.
The next evening the Squatch scored four goals in the game’s first 4:48, while Nutt scored for the Outlaws at 2:06.
The Squatch scored the only goal of the second period before Easton Parnell notched a pair of goals in the third period, including a power-play goal at 15:51, to close the scoring.
Bymers finished with 41 saves in this contest for the Outlaws.
