An Isanti man on probation is facing a new felony drug charge after allegedly being in possession of methamphetamine.
Nicholas John Lawson, 34, of Isanti, was charged May 30 before Judge Amy Brosnahan in Isanti County District Court in Cambridge with felony fifth-degree drug possession. Bail was set at $5,000 without conditions or he was released on his own recognizance with conditions. His next court appearance is scheduled for July 11.
The incident occurred on May 28 after a call was reported to the Isanti County Sheriff’s Office for suspicious person.
According to the criminal complaint:
On May 28, Isanti County Sheriff’s Deputy Jonathan Vander Vegt was dispatched to an address due to a suspicious person call involving Lawson.
The reported behavior was consistent with other reports of behavior being attributed to Lawson. Vander Vegt went to Lawson’s address and made contact with him. As Vander Vegt knew Lawson was on probation and subject to random testing, Vander Vegt decided to transport him to the jail for this purpose. A search of Lawson’s person revealed a plastic bag that tested positive for methamphetamine. As such, Lawson was arrested for drug possession.
