Last Friday, Sept. 27, North Branch Area Public Schools hosted a professional development day for all staff. My deepest gratitude goes to Director of Teaching and Learning David Treichel, district Staff Development Coordinator Carolyn Slater, and all the staff that assisted them in putting together such a great day of learning!
As do so many events here at NBAPS, staff development day started with the presentation of the colors by high school Air Force JROTC students, and the Pledge of Allegiance, and was followed by staff recognition and a few words from our friends at the North Branch Area Education Foundation. This year’s theme is “Instill Hope” and each staff member received a retractable lanyard with our district’s logo and vision statement called out.
David and I began the day’s learning by talking about the Continuous Improvement Plan 2018-20 (CIP), highlighting the many goals within the plan that have already been achieved, and asking staff for input regarding additions to the plan for the coming year. Like last year the community will be asked their thoughts on the CIP as well, using the same Thoughtexchange process our stakeholders have gotten used to in recent years. Look for that opportunity in mid-October.
The morning’s keynote speaker was Seema Pothini, who spoke to staff about issues of equity literacy, and was very engaging!
In the late morning we did something new in recent history; we gathered the entire staff in the new gym at the high school for an all-staff photo!
Following lunch, staff enjoyed break-out sessions including further discussions about equity awareness, customer service, effective classroom support strategies, and Google bootcamp; conducted staff meetings, and enjoyed personal work time.
It was wonderful to have all of our staff in one place, celebrating learning and preparing for another great year here at NBAPS!
