North Branch celebrates Christmas tree lighting

Nearly 70 people gather to celebrate a Christmas tree lighting event in Central Park in North Branch on Dec. 8. Due to COVID-19, the Beatification Association canceled its annual holiday parade and lighting ceremony. After Mayor Jim Swenson spoke to the crowd, he lit up the tall Christmas tree which is located at the southeast corner of Central Park, perpendicular to Branch Avenue and St. Croix Trail.
A crowd of parade onlookers’ eyes shine with emergency vehicle lights from a row of North Branch fire trucks and squad cars for 10 minutes in Central Park.
North Branch Mayor Jim Swenson shares words of affirmation and hope with the parade crowd during the trying times of the COVID-19 pandemic. The crowd listened to Swenson’s calming words while taking pictures or video, minutes before the Christmas tree was lighted.
