Every fall since 2006, a community within each of the seven counties (Aitkin, Carlton, Chisago, Isanti, Kanabec, Mille Lacs and Pine) in Lakes & Pines Community Action Council’s service area has hosted an Operation Community Connect, which is a day where area residents can go to obtain resources, food, health screenings and more, all under one roof.
In the beginning, Lakes & Pines assisted each community in planning and organizing their events, but over the years each community has been tailoring their Operation Community Connect to fit their own needs and resources available. Each event offers something different but all share one commonality: it’s run by community volunteers. Neighbors of those coming to the event to seek the resources and help.
In Isanti County, volunteers and members of First Baptist Church in Cambridge have provided and served the noon meal and enjoyed the opportunity to get to know their neighbors as they eat together. This year will be no different and they hope you can come and join them for lunch and take advantage of the various resources as part of Operation Community Connect.
This year’s event will be held on Saturday, Nov. 9 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 304 Main St. S., Cambridge. Once again they have partnered with the Heartland Express to provide public transportation to the event for those who need it. Contact Heartland Express at 651-213-5790 to schedule a ride from within Isanti County and mention it is to and from the event and the fee will be waived. All are welcome to attend.
