Braham student wins second-place in StarTribune turkey coloring contest

Every Thanksgiving, the Star Tribune sponsors a coloring contest called, “Oh You Turkey” (this was the 38th year).

Dayla McDonald, Braham Area Schools sixth- grade teacher, encourages her students to participate in this contest as part of Minnesota’s state history classroom standards. McDonald has promoted the contest since the early 1990s to her classrooms and this year she had a winner.

Samantha Hansen, a sixth-grader in McDonald’s class, entered her drawing and received second-place within the states 9-12 category. McDonald stated, “I knew that Samantha would receive something when she showed me her turkey. She really has an artistic eye and did an awesome job on her entry.”

Samantha will receive a gift certificate and other prizes from the StarTribune for her prize.
