The Caledonia varsity volleyball team challenged two of the better teams in the Three Rivers Conference last week, defeating both 3 sets to 1.
On Tuesday, October 1, the Warriors hosted Lewiston-Altura, winning 25-22, 25-10, 23-25, 26-24. Two days later the girls from Caledonia traveled to Winona Cotter. Set scores there were close as well (25-18, 25-18, 18-25, 25-19).
“Both the Lewiston and Cotter matches were tough, against two very good opponents,” Warriors head coach Scott Koepke reported. “The girls started out strong and fought through some good plays from the other team to close out each match in four sets.”
Alexis Simpson scored 5 instant winners from the service line versus Cotter, and put away 17 kills and 17 digs. Teammate Lydia Lange got 13 kills with only 2 errors, plus 16 digs.
On the road in Winona, Simpson collected 5 more aces, while Grace Myhre got 3. Lange led in the hitting department, scoring 19 kills. Lyza Hoscheit added 10 kills to team totals. Simpson and Dana Augedahl logged 21 digs apiece.
“We were very proud of the girls to come out on top of these two conference opponents,” Koepke added. “Both teams are very well coached and play the game at a very high level.”
The victories improve Caledonia’s overall record to 17-2-0. The Warriors continue to lead the TRC, and are now 9-0 in conference play.
