Caledonia traveled for a make up game against Dover-Eyota on Monday.  Caledonia came out strong in the first half and kept the ball on Dover’s half for the first 5 minutes and had a few opportunities but not enough to get ahead.  The girls have been working on playing with energy and the past few games we have started out very well.  Dover came back and put the first goal of the game in the 22nd minute.  Dover added their second goal of the half 10 minutes later to go up 2-0 at half time.  During half time we talked about holding possession of the ball and to continue with the energy.  We came out strong in the 2nd half again but Dover came back and added their 3rd goal of the night.  The game was called in the 50th minute due to lightening.

Winona Cotter came to Caledonia holding an undefeated record and already winning the Three Rivers Conference on Thursday.  At the beginning of the game I told the girls that I didn’t care what the score was, as long as we had a goal.  Previous game against Cotter was a 0-4 game with 0 shots and very little possession.  We held Cotter for the first 18 minutes until they broke through our back line and went up 1-0.  We were able to hold them at bunches at a time but with the amount of shots and where they were coming from, they were going to get a few more.  They added 2 more to go up 3-0 at half time.  The girls came fired up out of the half but Cotter put another goal up quick to go 4-0.  Caledonia came back and got a goal from Eliza Welscher when she took a shot from 30 yards and caught the Cotter goalie out.  The ball caught the wind and sailed over the goalie.  That was a big goal for us as Cotter had only gave up 3 goals prior to that all season.  Cotter came back and added 2 more goals to finish the scoring at 6-1.

Even though we let in 6 goals, the defensive back line of Ayshia Gay, Katelynn Seymour, Melanie Seymour, and Therese Jore held strong like they have all year.  Avery Zahn came in for the last 10 minutes at Goalie to give Madeline Foster a well deserved break.  She’s been getting beat up physically the past few games and its really taking a toll on her.

Caledonia finished the year against La Crescent at home on Friday, October 4th.  Caledonia had a great start and was able to get a couple of chances but were not able to create the opportunities needed to finish at goal.  We had a tough time breaking through their defense this game.  La Crescent got the scoring started on a great ball in front of the net that they finished to go up 1-0.  Not much later, they broke through the defense a got their second goal on a break away.  La Crescent went up 3-0 with a great shot from outside the 18 yard box.  They have some great players that can take over a game and really cause issues offensively.  In the second half, we were able to hold La Crescent to one more goal by holding possession more.

This was the last home game for the 2019 seniors of Goalie Madeline Foster, Defender Melanie Seymour, Midfielders Avery Zahn and Kaydi Breeser, and Forward Katie Lamm.  This group of girls have been through some really tough times but stuck it out and continued to work hard to get better.  I’m very proud of this group from what they have gone through and continue to fight each game.  It’s a great group of ladies that put their hearts into the program from the first day I stepped in 5 years ago.

Caledonia will be playing Winona Senior High on Tuesday, October 8th as the 14 seed at 7pm.
