The Caledonia baseball team suffered heart breaking losses to La Crescent after two consecutive games were played at the Mayo Field in Rochester. The teams were battling it out in the Section 1 AA Championship. The match was originally intended to be played on Tuesday, June 4, but had to be rescheduled to the following day because of severe weather.
The first game picked up were it left off. A runner had already scored in top of the first inning on Tuesday for La Crescent. The Lancers would send two more runners home later in the game after some major errors on Caledonia’s behalf.
La Crescent closed out the first game with a final score of 3 to 0. However, Caledonia was afforded a second opportunity to beat the Lancers since they had not lost yet in the section tournament, while La Crescent had.
Both games were defensive battles. Caledonia would show their defensive prowess by making a double play in the second game. The Lancers and the Warriors went scoreless for many innings until La Crescent would capitalize on errors.
Caledonia would not score in either of the games. The Warriors would hit well, but were unable to send runners home due to strikeouts and fly balls.
Eric Augedahl pitched for most of the first game until Austin Klug would take over at the end. For the second game, Casey Storlie pitched most of the time with Tate Meiners taking to the mound to close it out.
La Crescent continued to ride the momentum of the first game and won the second game 5 to 0. Caledonia finished second in the section tournament and end the season with a 19-3 record.
With the conclusion of a good season, it is no surprise there are a number of Warrior senior ball players who will continue to play baseball in college.
