June 14 is Flag Day, the 242nd anniversary of the adoption of the national flag of the United States of America. Proudly display the flag in observance of Flag Day and throughout the year.

Members of Spring Grove American Legion Post, the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts will have a flag disposal ceremony in Viking Memorial Park on Friday, June 14 beginning at 7 p.m. If you have flags that are no longer serviceable, bring them to the Legion, or directly to the ceremony to be properly disposed of per the U.S. Flag Code.

Wedding anniversary greetings are extended to Gary and Jan Lee (Pohlman) Buxengard, 50 years on June 14; Ronald and Monica Troendle 32 years, Scott and Jennifer (Bergsgaard) Solberg 17 years, Jeff and Kelly (Meiners) Groth, and Joe and Jacki Cody 16 years on June 15; Richard and LaVonne (Horn) Oitzman 57 years, Lonnie and JeanAnn (Privet) Tweeten 46 years, Truman and Jan Tilleraas 40 years, Dan and Kelly Selness 19 years on June 16; Scott and Ann (Kalash) Sanness 37 years, and Tyler and Sara Privet 9 years on June 19.

Last Wednesday, Gary Buxengard sang with the La Crosse Coulee Chordsmen at the funeral of former barbershop bass singer Jim Brickson. Jim had also been in the Naval Reserves in La Crosse with Gary. Also last week the Chordsmen sang at West Salem Dairy Days and Artspire at the Pumphouse. Special Export quartet also performed for the get together of Retired Educators.

Jered and Owen Buxengard from Bellechester spent a couple days last week at the Gary Buxengard farm.

The Wilmington Church Cemetery Board and spouses met for a meeting and supper last Wednesday at Little Miami in Freeburg. They were: Don and Sherry Ingvalson, Gary and Jan Lee Buxengard, Lorilyn Dehning, Carol Ann Burtness and LeRoy Williams.

Sincere sympathy to the Nerstads on the passing of two members of the family in a matter of two days. John, age 76, passed away on June 5 and his mother, Edith, age 100, passed on June 7. Both funerals were at Trinity Lutheran Church – John’s on June 10 and Edith’s on June 12, with burials in the church cemetery.

On Sun., June 9, Guest Pastor Lane Zaffke officiated the worship service at Wilmington Lutheran Church. Winnie Buxengard hosted the June birthday celebration fellowship following the service.

The Wilmington Church Council met following worship including Gretchen and Kevin Anderson, Gary Buxengard, Keith Haugstad, Naomi Myhre, Tamitha Peter, Joyce Sanness, Assistant to the Bishop Libby Howe and an interim pastor candidate.

Gary and Jan Lee Buxengard will celebrate 50 years of marriage on Sat., June 15th with an open house from 1:00 – 4:00 at the American Legion in Spring Grove.

Sun., June 16 – 9:30 worship service to be officiated by guest Pastor Lane Zaffke.

Tues., June 18 – W-ELCA business meeting at 9:30 a.m. at the church. A potluck lunch will follow the meeting and the afternoon will be spent working on mission projects.
