Tactacam HD gun cameras will soon be manufactured in Caledonia; happy to be part of the community

Submitted Tactacam HD cameras mount on your gun or bow to capture the hunt. The company is in the final negotiation stages to build a facility that will house its manufacturing and distributing services. They are shooting for a fall 2016 date of completion. Joining them in the move to Caledonia is the scent blocking company “Just for Does” where their product lines “Just for Does” and “Just for bucks” will also be made and distributed right here in Caledonia.

In what has long been rumored, the company Tactacam is coming to Caledonia.

The companies owners are in the process of securing a location to build a facility that will cover their manufacturing and shipping capacities and will also offer a small amount of space for retail.

Who is Tactacam

In 2013 founder Ben Stern designed a lens on a camera that mounts to a bow, cross-bow or firearm meant to capture and document an individuals hunt.

“Our cameras are different because of our lenses,” said co-owner Tara Peel. “When an animal is 30 or 40 yards away it doesn’t look like they are 100 yards away.”

The cameras are also light weight and waterproof.

“With one-touch operation they are also really easy to use,” said Peel.

Tactacam, who’s owners have strong ties to Wisconsin, currently operate out of Illinios with some shipping being done in Indiana.

Peel and her husband Jeff got involved when they visited Wisconsin on a hunt and met Ben Stern.

“We met while on a deer hunt,” said Peel. “Through friends who introduced us to Ben and everything just fell into place from there. I guess it was just meant to be.”

Coming to Caledonia

Caledonia was chosen because of proximaty to the owners homes.

Stern and co-owner Ben Thorud live in the La Crosse area.

Peel and her husband, Jeff, live in Decorah, IA.

“Caledonia was in the middle,” said Peel. “We’re excited to be here.”

The company plans to build a building that will bring all the shipping and the warehouse and all of the machines needed to manufacture the product to Caledonia.

Negotiations on a location should be done shortly and the owners hope to have everything up and running and in place by next fall.

The rapidly growing company will move many of its employees from across the county here to Minnesota and also plans to hire additional staff to meet the growing demands for its products.

Tactacam is available at several retailers including Wiebke Fur as well as Sheels locations across the state.

You can learn more about the company at tactacam.com where you can also view hunter’s hunts captured with the camera and share your hunt as well.
