Caledonia is hosting its annual National Night Out as a chance to meet and say ‘thank you’ to the boys in blue who keep us safe and protected.
“This year marks the 36th anniversary of this event,” said police chief Kurt Zehnder. “The purpose of this event is to bring together police-community partnerships, heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for and participation in local crime prevention programs, and also send a message to criminals, that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.”
Last year was Caledonia’s 14th year participating in the National Night Out celebration.
“The event was a success, and we are hoping for another great year,” said officer Nate Pearson, who organizes the festivities for Caledonia.
Tuesday, Aug. 6 folks are invited to come out and enjoy a hamburger and hot dog meal and to celebrate along with the community.
“This year, we are happy to announce, hamburgers and all beef hot dogs will be served by the Houston County Cattlemen’s Association,” said Pearson. “There will be free picnic food, drinks and door prizes.”
The popular fire department water fights will take place again this year, and guests can check inside an ambulance, fire truck and squad car.
“We’ll have a bounce house for kids,” said Pearson. “I think we got a little bit bigger one than in year’s past. It has a slide so the kids should really enjoy it.”
Music in the park will perform at Lion’s Park and the Aquatic Center Complex as part of the evening’s festivities. Joe Cody is expected to be the performer.
At the dunk tank, your’s truly will join Bob Burns and others who will be in the tank for people to test their dunking skills on.
Burns will take to the tank at 5:30 p.m. and I’ll be in the tank at 6:30 p.m. Zehnder is expected to make an appearance in the tank as well.
The fun begins at 5:00 p.m. and there will be several drawings, including for kids to get the chance to win a boy bike and girl bike as well as a boy bike helmet and girl bike helmet.
See you there.
