Bernard “Bud” George Kennen, age 84, of Birchwood, WI and Sanibel, FL died Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at his home in Birchwood surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 14, 1935 in Anoka, MN to Bernard and Viola (Ives) Kennen. Bud graduated from the St. Francis High School in St. Francis, MN and attended St. Cloud State University and Augsburg University. He was married to Jacqueline Thomas on June 23, 1956 in St. Francis. He worked for Lakeland Door Company in Minneapolis and then transferred to Birchwood to manage Birchwood Lumber and Veneer and then he took over ownership in 1971 and sold it 40 years later. Bud also owned and operated Tagalong Golf Course for 25 years and also owned and operated Birchwood True Value for 15 years. He loved flying, golfing, fishing, traveling and woodworking. Bud enjoyed watching the Minnesota Vikings, Minnesota Gophers and the Twins. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jacqueline “Jackie” Kennen of Sanibel, FL/Birchwood, WI; three sons, Scott Kennen (Jackie Johnecheck) of Sarona, WI, Thomas Kennen of Birchwood, WI and Dennis (Tammy) Kennen of Celebration, FL; eight grandchildren, Alison, Andy, Ryan (Lauren), Derek (Tracy), Domminick, Sara, Corrin and Jared; 12 great-grandchildren, Cole, Jordan, Kameron, Keyan, Carter, Brady, Aedyn, Aria, Jax, Calvin, Avaand Meena; a brother, Duane (Linda) Kennen of Hilton Head, SC; many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Viola Kennen; and a sister, Marlys (Jerry) Hester. A celebration of his life will be held from 4-7 p.m. Friday, August 16, 2019 at Appleyard’s Home for Funerals in Rice Lake, WI. In lieu of flowers, memorials appreciated to the Birchwood Food Pantry.
