A Northdale Middle School employee was recently named employee of the year by the national nonprofit School Nutrition Association.
Child nutrition assistant Gwen Daly was named the Midwest regional employee of the year early May for her contributions to time-saving tools in the kitchen, according to a press release.
“Gwen is so deserving of this award,” said Amy Thering, Minnesota School Nutrition Association president. “She has the heart and passion for her job and the student guests that we serve. She truly sets a great example for all.”
SNA highlighted Daly’s creation of three-ring binders to organize daily menus, showcase recipes and necessary tools for each meal. Daly also created signs outlining the school’s three-week cycle of main dishes for employees to reference quickly.
Daly also improved quantity tracking for food orders, saving money; she takes extra time with students to aid with restrictive diets such as insulin and Daly has attended the SNA State Conference for the past 10 years to stay up-to-date on guidelines, according to the press release.
“SNA is proud to have food service members like Gwen Daly in our public schools,” said Gay Anderson, SNA president. “She is committed to the health and happiness of her students, while performing her duties as an inspirational team player for her colleagues.”
