More than 75 people took part in the inaugural Heroes Walk 4 Women Aug. 3 in Anoka.
The 1-mile walk started and ended at Anoka City Hall. The event replaces the annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes that took place for three years in Anoka.
Participants were encouraged to come dressed as their favorite heroes: Wonder Woman, Superman, Spider-Man or anyone else.
Proceeds from the Heroes Walk benefited Alexandra House, which is an Anoka County-based nonprofit that offers services to victims of domestic and sexual violence across the state. Its mission is to empower victims and inspire social change through education, support and advocacy. Services include a 24-hour emergency shelter, victim advocacy and more.
A memorial was set up outside Anoka City Hall that honored victims of domestic and sexual violence in Anoka County.
