As schools around the Anoka-Hennepin School District welcomed students back Tuesday, Sept. 3, two elementary schools opened their doors for their first school year Sept. 3.
Brookside Elementary in Ramsey and Sunrise Elementary in Blaine welcomed their first classes after the pair were constructed over the summer. Both elementary schools were approved as part of the 2017 referendum that funded the Fit for the Future construction plan.
The two schools were officially named by the School Board in October 2018.
Sunrise Elementary, 12576 Lever St. NE, Blaine, is located on the eastern side of the school district.
As a prekindergarten through fifth-grade school, Sunrise’s name references the beginning of pupils’ educational journey.
Brookside, 17003 Nowthen Blvd. NW, Ramsey, is located in the northwestern part of the district.
Also a prekindergarten through fifth-grade school, Brookside’s name is a reference to the nearby Trott Brook.
