Three members of the Spring Lake Park High School Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (also known as FCCLA) chapter earned gold ratings at the national competition June 30 to July 1 in Anaheim, California. Here’s how they did:
• Junior Cassidy Auld – Gold rating and finished first in the nation – Topic: Chapter in Review Portfolio Senior
• Recent graduate Ananda Patel – Gold rating and finished second in the nation – Topic: Leadership.
• Junior Supriya Patel – Gold rating and finished in the top 20 in the nation – Topic: Career Investigation Senior. Patel also served on the media team at nationals, where she enjoyed taking photos and attended leadership training through Disney and the Leadership Academy.
Spring Lake Park High School senior Emma Wajda also attended the national competition as the Minnesota FCCLA president. She was on the nomination committee and was one of the four delegates to represent Minnesota and select the 10 new national officers. Wajda also accepted the award for Minnesota for increasing its membership in the Central Region and attended the Leadership Academy.
The group also received a runner-up plaque and $500 for its Financial Fitness project at the recognition ceremony.
Before returning to Minnesota, the group experienced the 6.4 earthquake that shook southern California July 4.
