Two victims have been identified in a fiery Andover crash by the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office.

Eleanor Lee Frey, 44 of Ogilvie and Dawn Marie Benkler, 57 of St. Francis were both pronounced dead at the scene of a head-on collision Sept. 13.

Initial information shows one vehicle was eastbound on 165th Avenue Northwest while the other was westbound when they collided near the intersection at Makah Street Northwest in Andover around 7:40 a.m., according to the Sheriff’s Office.

One vehicle reportedly ignited, and bystanders were able to remove the driver from that vehicle. Lifesaving efforts were attempted but unsuccessful and both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene. No passengers were in either vehicle.

The Anoka County Sheriff’s Office, Andover Fire-Rescue and Allina Ambulance responded to reports of the crash.

The Sheriff’s Office, Minnesota State Patrol and Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office continue to investigate the collision.
