Voters can get an early start on learning about their local candidates for this fall’s election at a series of events hosted by the League of Women Voters ABC.

Absentee voting by mail or in person begins on Sept. 21.

The forums will include candidates for mayors, city councils, the Minnesota House of Representatives, three Anoka County Board of Commissioners seats and two districts of Soil and Water Supervisors. All forums are free and open to the public.

To confirm legislative and county commissioner districts, obtain a sample ballot and learn about early voting and voter registration, visit the Minnesota Secretary of State website at mnvotes.org, or contact them by phone 651-215-1440.

The forums in Andover, Anoka and Ramsey will be recorded by QCTV and made available for on-demand viewing at QCTV.org. The Coon Rapids forum will be recorded by CTN and viewing information will be available at CTNstudios.com.

Candidates will respond to prepared questions from forum organizers and written questions from the audience. To submit a question for candidates in advance of the forum, send an email to lwvabc@gmail.com, and indicate in the subject line the forum for which the question is intended. Forum organizers will make the final determination on using and combining questions.

“We hope voters will avail themselves of these opportunities to hear candidates discuss issues affecting our region,” said Geri Nelson, Voter Services Co-Chair for the local League. “On Election Day, the voters’ decisions affect all aspects of our lives, and it is our shared goal to have voters hear directly from candidates so they can make informed choices.”

Following is the schedule of September forums. More forum information, including an alternative form to use for submitting questions and a listing of other area forums, is available on the local League’s website at lwvabcmn.org.

• Wednesday, Sept 5, 7 p.m., at Andover City Hall, 1685 Crosstown Blvd. Races include Andover mayor; Andover City Council, two at-large seats; Minnesota House Districts 35B, 31B and 31A.
