Fridley High School senior and International Baccalaureate Diploma candidate Yangchen Namgyal was named a Commended Student by the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Commended Students are recognized for exceptional academic promise demonstrated by outstanding performance on the qualifying test used for program entry.

Yangchen earned the Commended Student recognition based on the score she earned on her Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test in October 2018.

Out of 1.6 million student entrants, 34,000 students across the nation receive this recognition and letter of commendation from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

Following graduation in May 2019, Yangchen plans to attend the University of Chicago to major in environmental science.
