Two employees were hurt when the Kwik Trip store at 9250 Springbrook Drive NW in Coon Rapids was robbed by a lone suspect the early morning hours of May 27.
The suspect entered the store shortly after 3:30 a.m. and waited for other customers to leave before asking an employee, a 28-year-old woman, about coffee pricing, according to the Coon Rapids police report. Then he quickly walked behind the counter and punched the woman in the face, causing a cut under her left eye with substantial swelling and knocking her down, according to the report.
The robber demanded the assistant manager, a 34-year-old woman, open the cash registers, and during the process the suspect grabbed her and scratched her neck and right forearm before taking an estimated total of $250 from two registers and leaving the store, police say.
Video surveillance showed the robber driving a 2006 Dodge Durango, which had been stolen earlier in a car jacking in Crystal, police say.
The suspect is described as a black male, 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 9 inches tall, muscular build, weighing about 200 pounds with light facial hair and wearing a gray hoodie, navy Under Armor baseball hat and blue jeans.
According to the police report, an employee was taken to the hospital for treatment of her injuries.
No suspect had been arrested as of Monday morning, June 3, said Capt. Jon Urquhart of the Coon Rapids Police.
